Drop the Mic was founded in 2015 by Stephanie Bonte-Lebair, after several members performed together in a local musical theater production and wanted to continue creating music as a group. Since then, we’ve brought together talented vocalists from across Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia, performing at community events, festivals, private gatherings, and holiday celebrations throughout the region.
Our eight-member ensemble spans a wide range of ages, which means a wide range of musical influences. That diversity allows us to perform pop and rock favorites from multiple decades and thoughtfully shape our sets to suit different audiences and event styles.
From lively outdoor festivals to intimate celebrations, we focus on delivering performances that feel engaging, polished, and enjoyable for everyone in attendance. We’ve even created custom musical videos for special occasions, such as milestone birthdays, when something a little more personal is called for.
Above all, Drop the Mic is about connection — through music people recognize, harmonies that bring energy to a space, and performances that make events feel memorable.

Julie spent 8 years studying and performing theater in NYC before moving to Maryland. She joined DTM in early 2017. A photographer by trade, she has created several photoshoots for the group. When she's not posing newborn babies in buckets, she plays the role of mom and stepmom to her 3 kids, listens to true crime podcasts and tries to convince her poor husband to rescue ALL of the animals. She's currently up to 2 cats and 2 parrots with chickens on the horizon! Julie's favorite song is Sweet Dreams.

Stephanie founded Drop the Mic in 2015 with fellow musical theatre actors, Kelly and Eric, when they were all in "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas". She has a Masters in Vocal Performance, wrote a one-woman musical "Stage Dreams", and has singing credits in New York City, Signature Theater, and various community theaters. She has taught private voice, directed a community choir and a teen a cappella group. Her favorite song to sing with DTM is True Colors.

IT engineer by day and drum machine by night, Isaac joined DTM in 2017 after having performed as both a bass and vocal percussionist in other local groups. When not working at his computer, Isaac divides his time between vocal beatboxing and cardio kickboxing. Isaac's favorite DTM song is Take On Me, in which you'll hear his rockin' drums!

Kelly is one of the original DTM members, along with Eric and Stephanie. Kelly is the DC representative of DTM and a certified cat lady. Kelly's special skills include wailing in 80's songs and killer dance moves. One of Kelly's favorite songs to sing is Believe by Cher (arranged by Eric).

Rich has been singing with the group since it was formed in 2015. Off the mic, Rich enjoys running, being a cat dad, and all things Halloween. He's enjoying putting his a cappella arranging skills to the test as part of the group and has arranged several songs, including a Fleetwood Mac medley and a Rio/Africa mashup. Rich's favorite song to sing with the group is the mashup of I'm Yours and Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

A classically trained music educator, Alison wouldn't have predicted that the rock songs would be her favorite to sing (Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, Fleetwood Mac). When not teaching, rehearsing or performing, Alison recently started writing original songs and is excited to see where that path may take her.

Our sole Virginia representative, Matt single-handedly carries the bass for the group. As a scuba diver and actor (but not usually at the same time), Matt can be found underwater or seen performing in various theatrical productions in the DMV area. As a bass, Matt sings notes like "ooo" and "dm" over and over, so his favorite song is Don't You Forget About Me, where he sings actual words. Usually he remembers the words (but not always).

Eric is proud to also be one of the original members of DTM and is grateful for the opportunity to sing regularly among such wonderful people. Eric grew up a classically trained violinist and guitarist, but he has now embraced singing for the past decade. His favorite song to sing with DTM is Pompeii.
